Rain, Rain - Stay Just a Little Bit Longer

Raised garden beds prepared in spring by Chris Shonnard of Shonnard's Nursery in Corvallis, Oregon. The rain and cooler weather are on my mind this week. It has slowed down the early spring and although it is not as enjoyable to work in the garden it has done some good things.

First, it has brought the much needed rain we Oregonians know we must have to stay green.

Lynnette Shonnard prepares the soil in a raised garden bed at Shonnard's Nursery in Corvallis, Oregon.Second, it has given us a chance to catch up with those late winter chores that still needed doing. In my case that included the last of the fruit tree pruning, some last minute bare root berry planting and getting lime and organic lawn food spread.

Lastly I was able to work on more raised beds in the shop getting them ready to install on the next dry day. We did get a chance to fill the first 5 beds and get the onions planted during a break in the weather on Sunday. The peas are going to get planted this week even if I get soaked doing it.
