Philomath Community Garden Is Up and Growing!
Shonnard’s has adopted the Philomath Community Garden as a community enhancement phoject for a five year period. The garden is open to anyone in the community, but is targeted for Philomath residents in need. Participants will log their hours and a weekly food box will be distributed based on the level of involvement.
Any remaining food will go to the local food bank. The garden is located south of the Philomath Community Services building near Applegate and 9th Street.
During the
past month we have been working with many other volunteers to prepare the garden for planting. At this point 5 of the 7 beds have been planted with a wide variety of donated veggies and seeds. We’ve also been able to take down the donated greenhouse by Good Earth Pest Control. In the next couple of weeks we’ll be picking up the greenhouse parts and planting the rest of the garden.
The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution
Fund donated $3,000 to help with materials needed for the garden and an irrigation system. We really appreciate this generous gift.
Any community members interested in
participating can join us for the next work party on Saturday, May 15th at 10am. Meet at the garden and bring your favorite tool, gloves, and sturdy shoes….after all we will be gardening.
